n today's enterprise, the exchange of valuable technical and business data happens at blinding speeds. Single sign-on networks, portals, product lifecycle management (PLM), and other content-management systems facilitate the flow of ideas from concept into tangible marketplace products.
Yet, for all their prowess and efficiency, these systems are vulnerable in one key area: security. Once users provision documents out of such systems, the documents are out "in the wild," and, effectively out of your control. The likelihood of costly exposures skyrockets.

The highly-customizable ShareSafe Software Development Kit (SS-SDK) exists to let you add the indispensable dimension of security to your document-provisioning system and to ensure your data is protected at every step of the way, no matter who uses your data or where the data might be found.

What Is the ShareSafe SDK?
The ShareSafe SDK is a comprehensive developers’ tool-kit that extends technical-data management systems with in-use security for the data that these systems help to manage. The ShareSafe SDK consists of two modules:
- Packaging Engine: Contains the logic for securing content, assigning it permissions, and generally restricting what users can do with it.
- Directory Services: Contains Directory Adapters to leverage your enterprise authentication and ID-management systems to ensure that secure content is accessed only by intended recipients. The SDK includes ready-made Directory Adapters for Active Directory, LDAP, and Lotus Domino. In addition, the Directory Services Module facilitates the creation of custom adapters to meet database, single sign-on, web portal, and any other ID-management infrastructure.
The Case for the ShareSafe SDK
Deciding whether your organization should protect high-value, electronically shared information is not so much a matter of if, but when. The ShareSafe SDK integrates file protection as documents are provisioned out of an application or content-management system. The only question you really must answer is how long can your enterprise afford to be without it.

Viewing Secure Content
At the receiving end, the people to whom you send secure content use the freely available Pinion Receiver.
Note: Pinion Receiver requires Windows XP (Home or Professional Editions), or Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 and Roll-up 1.
